As part of our safety topic we have been talking about police. We have made police hats, freddy’s and in the last week of term 3 we are making a Wanted Poster from the mugshots we took. I know the best part of the topic so far was our very special visitor Dicko, from Keilor Downs police. He was lots of fun and answered all our questions about police. Well done to Nathan and Emily for their fantastic colouring of the freddy. I’ll give them to Dicko soon. And if you don’t know what a freddy is, then just ask any of us from 2JS. Thanks for the visit Dicko.

On Wednesday afternoon our grade read independently on the school oval.
First we chose our books and got some picnic rugs. We walked out to the oval and set out the rugs. It was very windy. Some of our parents came. Then we started to read our books. After that we swapped some of our books. Finally we finished reading our books and went back to our class.
It was fun reading outside on the oval.

This is our new topic for term 3. We will do lots of activities about keeping ourselves safe. This covers things like home safety, school safety, road and bike safety. One of our first activities was children making a ‘LITTLE BOOK OF EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS’. It is important for children to know their full name, address and phone number, in case of emergencies. Well done to Ashleigh and some other children who already know their home phone, and also Mum and Dad’s mobiles too!

Well 2JS it is the end of term 2. You are half way through grade 2! I hope we like the room when it is finished being painted. I bet Nathan’s dad did a great job. I will go in on the holidays and set up the tables again for us. Have a great holiday. Relax and have fun.

Today we all got to make a toy out of wood. I am so proud of all the children in 2JS who safely used tools. Yes, they actually used sandpaper, woodwork benches and a SAW! Some of you might like to decorate your boats (with paint or textas) and show them to me next week. Test them to see if they float too! I hope you had fun. I did. I spoke to Ash (the woodwork teacher) afterwards and he said he thought everyone did a great job. Well done 2JS and I am VERY, VERY proud of you all.

What a bunch of sickies in 2JS this week. Including me. I think we had every sickness possible keeping people home for 1, 2 or even 5 days. Hopefully the long weekend will let everyone recover. Enjoy yourself and remember to do some independent reading at home!

This week in reading we have been focussing on summarising texts. That means that we put the book into our own words. It sometimes means that a long page is put into one or two short sentences. We do a lot of independent reading at the moment. This means that everyone reads books….. a lot.
