Book in a Bag

For our book in a bag narrative we were given a bag of objects to use in a story. They were:

  • A lion

  • A pig’s nose

  • A bird’s beak

  • A shovel

  • A magnifying glass

  • 2 marbles

Here is the story we came up with.

The Stolen Crystals Audio

The Stolen Crystals

On a sunny morning Detective Sam and Mr Spike the hedgehog had just been for a swim on Sandy Island.

Detective Sam and Mr Spike

There was a wizard lion living nearby. He had secretly buried his magic crystals on Sandy Island to keep them safe.

The hedgehog and Detective Sam were looking for treasure, but instead they dug up two sparkling, beautiful crystals! They were amazed that they had found something so precious and wonderful.

The wizard lion came back to see if his crystals were still there. When he saw they weren’t there, he ROARED so loudly that the whole jungle could hear him roar. Detective Sam and Mr Spike heard the roar and were terrified. They took out a nose from their pockets to disguise themselves as other animals. They did not know that the crystals were magical. When they put the noses on, the crystals made them stick, and they tried and tried but they couldn’t get them off!

The lion found them and Detective Sam and Mr Spike begged for the wizard lion to take the noses off.

They gave the crystals back to the wizard lion and promised never to steal from him again. He agreed and they had to be his servants for one month.

Since then Detective Sam and Mr Spike never dug up treasure again!

  1. What a great story you have written for the Book in a Bag contest Grade 2 JS.I was looking forward to seeing how the story would end. I wouldn’t like to be stuck with the Pig nose. My favourite character was Mr Spike. Well Done from Mrs Osborn.(the Art one)
