DESCRIPTION

A description tells about the main parts of a person, place or thing. It has 4 parts – a title, an introduction, characteristics and evaluation. Here is a description of a spinning bird:

Spinning Bird

Spinning birds are toy birds that spin around a stick.

Spinning birds are a paper picture of a parrot. They are coloured in bright colours. The picture sits on a small stick. It spins around the small stick. Children play with them by spinning them on the stick. Sometimes children will play pretend games with them. When it spins, sometimes it falls off the stick. Sometimes it spins quickly, and sometimes it spins slowly.

Spinning birds are interesting and very fun to play with.

RECOUNT

A recount tells the reader about events that have happened. It has 4 parts – a title, orientation, sequence of events and personal comment. Here is a recount of a fitness lesson:

Fitness

Last week grade 2JS did a fitness lesson on the basketball court.

First of all we got the balls from Mrs Tyson’s room.

Next we got a ball each. After that we had free play with the ball. Then we had a lesson with the balls.

Last of all we put the balls back into the bag and went back to our classroom.

We felt happy and tired after our fitness class.
